Steven M. Ehrin, bassoon

Steve Ehrin is a graduate of Duquesne University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Bassoon Performance under the tutelage of Philip Pandolfi. While at Duquesne, Steve had done extensive work on the contrabassoon, including private instruction from Carlton A. Jones and James Rodgers. Steve had his Carnegie Hall, NY début in April of 2004 with the University’s Wind Symphony playing contrabassoon and a “self- extended” Sub-Contrabass Clarinet! He has performed with several local groups including Westmoreland, Johnstown, Butler Symphonies, and a returning member of the American (Waterways) Wind Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert A. Boudreau. He can be heard on the AWSO’s CD “Concertos from Three Continents” playing contrabassoon and heckelphone.

Steve is the Musical Instrument Repair Technician for the Pittsburgh Public School District. He accepted this position in January of 2006, after several years in the local music repair business. As an extension to his repair work, he also enjoys building musical wind instruments. His interest in the “repair and design” of instruments began in middle school after his discovery of the “Big Bassoon” (the contra). A kid at 13 years old, who couldn’t afford to buy such an instrument, inspired him to attempt to build one himself which led to his interest and occupation in the repair business.

Steven M. Ehrin, bassoon In addition to Steve’s musical aspirations, he is an avid Cadillac car enthusiast. He is a member of the prestigious National Cadillac and La Salle Car Club.
